After reading the Metro article on Brian Magee, a blind man suffering from glaucoma who was dragged by a TTC bus – I felt compelled to express my disgust at the lack of common courtesy individuals posses when on public transit. Let alone the TTC employees themselves.
Not getting into too much detail on the matter here’s the gist:
On December 11, 2012 Brian Magee went to his regular bus stop on Jane street just north of Lawrence. As the bus arrived Magee’s stop he first learned of the woman with a stroller whom was waiting patiently for the bus with him when the bus driver allegedly rejected the women due to “an over-sized stroller”. Shocked, Magee then attempted to board the bus himself at which point the doors were abruptly shut lodging his white and red identification stick between the doors. Magee was then dragged with the bus 10-20 steps until the stick broke in half. To this day Mr. Magee hasn’t received an apology from the bus driver let alone the TTC.
This is completely and utterly disgusting on behalf of the TTC as a whole. My post isn’t the first to cover this incident in fact I’m publishing this post about a month after the incident was first publicized.
Within a month over 20 different online publications have published stories on Brian Magee’s incident with the TTC. One could safely assume that at the very least one senior official within the TTC has come across Brian’s story. So, how come no apology?
Growing up using public transit as my means to get from point A to point B around the GTA I’ve sadly grown accustomed to the assholes who like to take their horrible day out on the rest of passengers. For the most part these individuals are usually easy to spot and therefore easy to avoid.
However, becoming more frequent are incidents like Brain Magee’s. Not only passengers but, TTC employees themselves acting like complete and utter dicks who decide to hate on and at the same time embarrass those with disabilities.
Whether you notice it at the time or not, let it be known that waiting an extra 3 minutes which it sometimes takes for a blind or other handicapped individual to board the bus is not worth the humiliation you put the individual through whilst you bitch. Which if I may get nothing done any quicker.
